Sometimes I think it could be cool to have a “Little Helper” to arrange my songs after I come up with a banging idea for a tune. But that's still a wish awaiting fulfilment in the future. Nevertheless, like some other players in the AI field, Google is researching how to generate music from text using generative AI. I took a glimpse at what was supposedly created by an AI trained on a vast dataset.
MusicLM
MusicLM is a large language model (LLM) developed by Google AI that can generate music from text descriptions. It was trained on a massive dataset of music and text, enabling it to generate music in a variety of styles including classical, jazz, pop, rock, and electronic.
MusicLM can be used for a variety of tasks, such as:
- Generating new music for films, TV shows, and video games
- Creating personalized playlists and soundtracks
- Helping musicians with songwriting and composition
- Developing new music education tools and applications
MusicLM is still under development, but it is already capable of generating high-quality music that is both creative and original.
AI Test Kitchen app
To test MusicLM, visit the AI Test Kitchen app. The AI Test Kitchen is a platform for experiencing and providing feedback on some of Google's latest AI technologies.
To use MusicLM on the AI Test Kitchen, you will need to create an account. With an account, you can start generating music by typing in a prompt. For example, you could type in "a calming violin melody backed by a distorted guitar riff" or "create an industrial techno sound that is hypnotic".
MusicLM will then generate a short piece of music based on your prompt. You can listen to the music and provide feedback to help Google improve MusicLM.
Not perfect results
Please note that MusicLM is still under development, so it may not always generate perfect results. However, it is a powerful tool that can be used to create a wide variety of music.
I think this tech has come a long way, but we're far from the goal. That said, in this AI-driven universe, things tend to develop pretty quickly.
